Flip Side... (The concluding part).

Continued from here.

"Easy ladies" Akunna said with a little chuckle, "calm down."
"Girl talk joor" I said.
"When she woke up, I called her name and told her I was the one talking to her, she asked 'where’s Henry?' I told her he wasn’t in the room but he was around, she started crying". Akunna paused and continued, "As I consoled her I asked if she could recall the last thing that happened and she said she could only remember Henry saying 'how dare you?' and a bang on her face and blackout. I didn't want to push further so I recommended she relaxed a bit more."
"I guess he must have slapped her face with something not just his palm" I said trying to picture the scenario in my head.
"Akunna please let's see her, she’s rested long enough" Furo said with so much anxiety, “she’s been here since 3pm and you just buzzed this evening, she ought to be stable now."
"Well, let's go see her cause I'm not sure I'd like Henry to meet you here. You know it would look somehow" Akunna said and we got up to go see Nnenna in a private room.

Quote for the week!

                          Who’s got your back?

If it’s not the Almighty God, well I’m so sure you must be that bodiless person crying.

Whose baby is this?

Please can someone help me in identifying this very cute baby? Her picture has been circulating as dp(display picture) on bbm for some days now and each person keeps claiming “She’s my niece”. Only one person I asked has been truthful enough to say “I stole the picture”…lol.
I am not alone in this inquiry; some friends too have observed this trend. So please somebody, anybody, just tell us the truth about this baby, who she is. Is she a celeb’s baby? She’s so adorable!

Girl pours hot oil on another girl! [Pictures]

For close to 24hours now I’ve been wondering what would be enough reason for a young girl like this
to pour hot oil on a fellow human being like this other young girl
thus leaving her like this!
I’m still shocked at this behavior.
Some people have said it could be a quarrel because of a “sugar-daddy” a.k.a. “aristo” but then I asked ‘what would the man’s wife do if mere girlfriends are doing this?’
Or could this be the answer to his wife’s prayers of “God cause confusion in the midst of my enemies’ camp” / “God punish every woman trying to break up my marriage”? Because here, one person is scared for life and the other must go behind bars for a while for carrying out such a wicked act.
Well, let’s watch out as more unfolds.

Odeshi disappoints OPC Leader: dies from friend’s testing shot.

Yisa Anifowose
As hilarious as it may sound but very serious, Yisa Anifowose has sadly lost his life in a bid to test the efficacy of his newly acquired bullet-proof charm popularly known in Nigeria as “Odeshi” (O dighi eshi meaning: it’s not going to happen as intended).
Until his death he was the leader of the Odua People’s Congress, OPC, at Shasha Akowonjo, Lagos State.

MBGN 2011: How unSOPHISTICATED for Miss World.

So the Miss World event is coming up soon and to represent Nigeria is MBGN 2011, Sylvia Nduka. I don’t know how the judges came up with her as the winner of MBGN 2011 because she wasn’t the crowd’s favorite, but anyhow, she is MBGN 2011. But I know the judges at the Miss World event would be totally different from the MBGN 2011 judges. When I saw her Miss World 2011 Questionnaire on www.bellanaija.com, I could bet with all the possessions that God has given me on this earth (especially if the bet is between me and Aliko Dangote or Mike Adenuga…lol) that this girl wouldn’t go far in this competition unless they cheat for her!

Flip Side...

Coming home from work as early as 6pm was not a regular occurrence for me especially on Fridays but today had been a good day for me at work.
First, my boss called in early to say he wouldn’t be around therefore all appointments had to be rescheduled, which I did in a matter of minutes. Second, I got a call from my youngest brother to say he had just finished his final year project defense; I was excited and grateful to God that we all had become graduates. Third, my fiancé sent me an unexpected gift just to appreciate me and the love we shared. He got me a Cartier 21 Chronoscaph wrist watch; I couldn’t hide my excitement so I made sure we were able to do lunch together. My day couldn’t have been better so I was happy to close early and get home early.
I planned to go to the gym with my fiancé on Saturday morning so I needed to go to bed a bit earlier than normal. I quickly prepared dinner and ate. I was going to have my bath to feel very refreshed before going to bed when I received an SMS from my friend Furo. It read,
“Wanga please come to LifeHope hospital. Nnenna has just been admitted”.

The Search for Nigeria's Face of Sleek, Sleek Studio Woman & Style Star 2011 Begins!

A drift from the norm!
There are lots and lots of beauty/fashion competitions going on in different parts of Nigeria these days that it’s become so boring for some people like me because the organizers haven’t been able to spice up the shows and be more creative with it (u know wat I’m saying?). But when I read about this on Linda ikeji’s blog today, I was so so excited about the idea, concept and inclusions in the competition that I just have to share it!
We don’t have to celebrate only the “18 – 25”s, some older women still look sweet!
We don’t have to celebrate only the “single ladies”; some married women are really beautiful in all aspects.
We don’t have to celebrate some “dumb skull” undergraduate just because she’s pretty; beauty package is never complete without brains!
It is one competition with three winners…no 2nd place!

Broke Blackface Naija dumped by Wife.

Unlike Tuface and Faze, the third member of the trio that made up Plantashun Boiz, Blackface, hasn’t been having life so sweetly financially. It’s been reported that his wife has moved out of their matrimonial home because of his inability to fend for his family. They have been married for about eight years now but had to come to a mutual agreement on living apart pending when the actual divorce will be obtained in court.
I guess going solo hasn’t favored him like Tuface and Faze who have made success of their solo careers.
So was he hiding under Tuface and Faze while they were in Plantashun Boiz or he’s just not been working hard and smart?

Mc Loph dies in car accident. [Picture]

It’s so sad that the Nigerian entertainment industry has lost another young talent in the person of Obiajulu Nwaozor better known as MC Loph. He died early hours of Wednesday September 14, 2011 on the controversial Benin – Ore road when he lost control of his Ford Durango SUV which he bought a few weeks back, skidded and somersaulted into a ditch. He was travelling to the eastern part of the country for his traditional wedding alongside his Abia state-born wife who is a medical practitioner. It hasn’t been confirmed if she survived the accident but I hope she did.

Boko Haram threatens to bomb UI and other universities.

University of Ibadan

According to http://www.vanguardngr.com/, the authorities of the University of Ibadan have confirmed the threat by members suspected to be of the Boko Haram sect that they are going to bomb the university between 12 and 17 September and this has led to panic among staff and students of the institution as there was heavy security presence at the main entrance to the university, opposite Agbowo Shopping Complex this morning. The Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Elijah Afolabi Bamigboye confirmed the rumour thus “We heard rumours that a group which detests education is likely to descend on institutions where education is being imparted. We heard that U.I is top on the list. When we heard the rumour of  the threat to bomb U.I, we did not want to take chances. We’ve heard of experiences in the past, especially the recent bombing of the UN house in Abuja as well as the Force headquarters which left several people dead”.

This is very unpleasant! And our government is just going to do nothing about this menace? Oh God please come to Nigeria’s rescue o in Jesus’ name!

Akolade Arowolo attempts suicide in prison.

Akolade Arowolo, who allegedly stabbed in Banker wife Titilayo in June 2011, has attempted to take his own life while in the Ikoyi Prison where he was being remanded pending the outcome of the autopsy report on his wife.
Reports have it that he paid someone who smuggled in a poisonous substance which he ingested to terminate his life and this wasn’t his first attempt to kill himself in the prison. He was rushed to Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, Lagos for prompt medical attention. The case which is still in court was on last Friday adjourned till October 26 by the magistrate.

This man wants to take his own life? This wouldn’t even augur well for his side of the case in court o. God help.

The ‘Beating’ in Beat 99.9Fm: People’s Reactions.

Over the weekend I read about the much talked about ugly incident that took place last week in Beat 99.9FM between Programmes Director, Olisa Adibua and Adewunmi Oyekanmi, the night news editor at Naija Fm, on Linda Ikeji’s blog and on facebook. Reading the different posts and the comments was quite interesting. I don’t support violence of any form in a work place and this case really shouldn’t just die down, our judiciary should use it to teach and warn violent superiors. Employers/Company Managements should also take proper actions regardless of who ever is involved in such dastardly acts.
I enjoyed reading different people’s comments. This “anonymous” button eh,…lol. I want to share some of the most interesting / hilarious comments that got me ROTFL just like the picture above!

Quote for the week!

In summary, SHINE YA EYEZ OH!!!

Growing up in Nigeria.

The week before last, on the Tuesday and Wednesday, in Nigeria we observed the much awaited public holidays marking Ramadan Kareem. Lots of people had anticipated the break especially corporate workers and many are already counting down to the next national public holidays. After work resumed, I caught up with someone and in the course of our chat she asked me "how did you spend your holiday?" I answered casually that I was indoors because the first day I needed to rest and the second day I hoped to go out but the rains started early in the morning and lasted till late evening, so I couldn’t go anywhere. But then, the question struck me in a way. It brought back some childhood memories.

The Facebook President of Nigeria - Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

Goodluck Jonathan
Last Friday I launched a comprehensive database on all Vehicles in Nigeria designed to link every vehicle to its owner/operator such that vehicles can be traced within seconds. This is part of proactive steps we are taking as part of a review of our national security architecture to lay greater emphasis on intelligence and citizens' participation in security surveillance. Terrorism has no conscience and spares no one. We must stand together against terror in its destructive manifestations. GEJ

This was Mr. President’s facebook status yesterday.
I have one question to ask please.
Will the “danfo”-type & “molue”-type buses of the different towns in Nigeria be also included in this scheme?
How e wan take happen abeg?

Anyway, we dey here dey watch.

Suspected bomb at the Ikeja LGA Office cause panic.

Ikeja area of Lagos State was yesterday thrown into panic following an alleged discovery of a substance suspected to be a bomb inside one of the offices in Ikeja Local Government Secretariat on Obafemi Awolowo Road.

Government workers and those who came for transactions rushed out of the building with some car owners abandoning their vehicles as they fled for their lives.

Wikileaks allegation: EFCC clears Jonathan and wife.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it does not have any record of $13.5million allegedly recovered from First Lady Patience Jonathan in 2006. EFCC chairman Farida Waziri told news men on the side light of a courtesy call on her by a non-governmental organization (NGO) named Women Empowering and Enriching Lives, that she did not inherit any case file on President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife. She said, “We did not inherit any case. In fact, it’s amazing the nature of this $13.5million alleged to have been seized at the airport, which airport? Seized by whom? And where is the lodgment?” To buttress her point on how the commission deals with recovered funds, she cited the example of former governor of Delta state James Ibori “if you recall the issue of $15million laundering money from James Ibori, the money is still in the Central Bank of Nigeria, it is there and the record is with me. Now this other issue is a fiction and I want to clear the record and equally the wikileaks also talked about inherit case on Mr. President, I did not inherit any case file on President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. I have never received a petition when he was governor of Bayelsa, when he was vice president and today as president. I have never received any petition against Mr. President.”
Hmm… Choose ye this day whom YOU shall believe.
As for me, I believe God.

Nigerian Movie Titled Lady Gaga!

Yes o! Nollywood no dey fall our hand! Trust them in things like this...lol!
First, we watched “Sharon Stone” which was played by Genevieve Nnaji.

Then we watched “Beyonce and Rihanna” played by Nadia Buari and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, and featured Jim Iyke playing the role of JayZ (cause his character’s name was Jay).

Now we have Lady Gaga!
From this poster I see Oge Okoye and Funke Akindele. I just wonder who the Lady Gaga is and who the other person is acting as…maybe Nicki Minaj…lol!

You Must Make Money Here!

I attended a night vigil in church some months ago, it was a special one dedicated to praise and worship. There were musical performances by Cobhams, Tim Godfrey and the Xtreme crew, Funmisax and other gospel act and there were some comedians too. One particular joke by one of the comedians got stuck in my head. He said (in their usual funny way), when one of his ‘brothers’ came to Lagos and after a short period came back to the village with so much money, he questioned him how he made so much money so fast and if there was a place in Lagos where they fetched money. His brother was actually staying in a shanty but was on a certain day, ‘fortunate’ to have seen some robbers hiding stolen money somewhere under a bridge and made away with the bag of money, but the brother just told him he picked a bag of money under the bridge. So he made up his mind to come to Lagos to pick his own bag of money from under a bridge.

Nollywood loses another one of her own.

Geraldine Ekeocha
Barely a month after losing Sam Loco Efe, nollywood and indeed the entertainment industry of Nigeria has lost Geraldine Ekeocha. She was reported to have passed on in Enugu on Sunday 4th September 2011 after a fibroid operation. She will be greatly missed for her motherly roles in movies.
May her gentle soul find eternal peace in Our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen!

Quote for the week!

“Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.” Habakkuk 2:4.
For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7.

This week endeavor to walk and work before God, your reward will amaze you and the world shall marvel too! J

Essence losses car to armed robbers.

On the news today, it was said that Essence Okoro Uwale, one of Kennis Music acts, lost her recently acquired Nissan Ultima today to some armed robbers when she went to visit her parents at their home in Unity Estate, Egbeda. This is really sad. I hope the car would be tracked and found. It’s a Silver/Gold Nissan Ultima with Registration number: CD 674 AKD.
Be courageous Essence, the best is yet to come. J

From The Nigerian Kitchen.

Sometimes you may want to cook and eat a certain food but the way you prepare it may begin to bore you. Example you eat rice either as rice and stew or jollof rice or fried rice. No other format.
On a certain day, I wanted to eat macaroni cause it’s been a while, but I didn’t want the regular macaroni and stew or jollof macaroni, so I created a nice recipe for myself.

Super Sand Eagles lose opening match.

Today, while observing my lunch break I caught a glimpse of the on-going FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup taking place in Ravenna, Italy. Nigeria was up against Russia. I was willing to spend some time, maybe watch the first period and it would be my first time sitting to watch the Nigeria beach eagles playing live but I got discouraged when in less than 10 minutes into the match our team had conceded 2 ‘hot’ goals!

Beauty Out-of-Naija for this Weekend.

Free Listening Session.

On a certain day on my way to work, I boarded a LAGBUS headed for TBS. Seated behind me in the bus were two young ladies obviously friends cause they were so engrossed in their conversation. Since the bus radio was off and I didn’t have earphones plugged in my ears like most passengers had, I got a “free” listening session paying attention to their conversation. I wasn’t eavesdropping o, they were talking and the waves just kept entering my ear on its own. Since I don’t know their names I’d refer to them as Lady 1 and Lady 2.
Lady 1: please face the A.C the other way.
Lady 2: I’m feeling cold too, I’ll just close it.
Lady 1: better. As I was saying, she came that afternoon.
Lady 2: so she now visits people? I thought she was an island that doesn’t need any body.
Lady 1: (laughs) don’t mind her jare. Anyway I don’t blame her, it’s because she managed to see husband.
Lady 2: what did she say made her remember you?

Growing up in Nigeria.

In buying and selling, common name refers to the actual name that defines the item while the brand name refers to name given to that item by the manufacturer for identity purposes.
In Nigeria, some brands have become so popular that their brand names are now being used as the common name of items. This is not necessarily because the said brand is better than all other brands manufacturing the item. It may be because the said brand was the first to launch such a product in the market, therefore the citizens have gotten used to it before its contemporaries became available in the market. This behavior of Nigerians has passed on from one generation to another to the benefit of the favored brands.
Some Nigerians do not even know the common names of some items simply because of how they have become so used to these brand names. Even when they don’t want that particular brand, they still refer to it with the name of the brand they desire attached to it.
I have listed a few items which their common names have been switched with that of these ‘successful’ brands below. This is how they are referred to by most Nigerians when they walk into a shop or store and in the market.

Instead of saying:
Most Nigerians say:
Petroleum jelly
Vaseline
Tea
Lipton
Noodles
Indomie
Diaper
Pampers
Sanitary pad
Always
Antiseptic disinfectant
Dettol
Paracetamol
Panadol
Deodorant
Sure
Bleach
Jik

It’s funny right? There are lots more and they will be welcomed if you mention them.
If you are a Nigerian and have at one point or the other referred to an item with a brand name instead of its common name say “aye”, if you haven’t say “nay”.
